Step-by-Step Password Reset

Open imToken and go to "My Profile" → "Manage Wallets".

Select the wallet for which you want to reset the password.

Click "Forgot Password" and then select "Reset Password".

Enter your backed-up mnemonic phrase or private key.

Set a new wallet password and click "Submit" to complete.

Important: If you receive an error message saying the mnemonic phrase or private key does not match your current wallet, it means the backup you entered does not correspond to that wallet. Double-check the word order, spelling, and try other backups you may have.

What If Your Wallet Was Imported via Keystore?

Wallets imported via Keystore do not support password reset through the above method. A Keystore is essentially an encrypted private key file that requires a password to unlock. If you forget the password for a Keystore‑imported wallet, your only option is to keep trying common password combinations—there is no limit on attempts.

Scenario 2: You Lost Your Mnemonic Phrase but Remember Your Password

If you still have access to your wallet and remember your password, back up your mnemonic phrase immediately.

How to Find and Back Up Your Mnemonic Phrase

Open imToken and go to the wallet settings page.

Look for the option to view or back up your mnemonic phrase (usually under security or backup settings).

Write it down on paper or store it on a physical offline medium.

Critical: As long as you can access your wallet, you can still retrieve and back up your mnemonic phrase. Do not delay—this is your last line of defense.

Scenario 3: You Lost Both Your Password and Your Mnemonic Phrase

This is the worst-case scenario.

imToken is a decentralized, non-custodial wallet. It does not store any user information, passwords, or mnemonic phrases. This means:

imToken cannot help you recover your password or mnemonic phrase.

No one can recover your wallet without the mnemonic phrase or private key.

Anyone who promises they can recover your assets is a scammer.

If you have neither the password nor the mnemonic phrase, your assets are permanently inaccessible. The only remaining option is to consult a professional third‑party blockchain security company, though success is not guaranteed.

Scenario 4: You Lost Access to Your Device but Have Your Mnemonic Phrase

If your phone is lost, stolen, or damaged, or if you accidentally uninstalled the app, you can recover your wallet on a new device.

How to Recover on a New Device

Download and install imToken on your new device.

On the launch screen, select "Import Wallet".

Choose "Mnemonic" as the import method.

Enter your 12‑word (or 15‑, 18‑, 21‑word) mnemonic phrase in the correct order, with a space between each word.

Set a new wallet name and password.

Add the blockchain networks (e.g., Ethereum, Tron, Bitcoin) that you previously used.

After import, check that the restored wallet address matches your original address. If it does not, you entered the wrong mnemonic phrase.
